About Mixed Media

“Mixed media” is a general term used to describe all artwork composed from a combination of different media or materials. The materials used may be as traditional as a combination of watercolor and ink or as contemporary as a discarded toilet shellacked in propaganda posters.

My mixed media pieces include paper scraps, fabric, found objects and encaustic paintings on paper. After items are affixed to the canvas, I may draw or paint to complete a composition.

I approach each piece with a pile of collected supplies that I believe will provide an interesting combination. But once I begin to lay things out, I often veer away from my initial materials and revise my work to capture emerging patterns and images.
